Symptoms and Causes of Low Blood Sugar

Blood sugar level is the amount of glucose (SUGAR) present in the blood of a human. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose level as a part of metabolic homeostasis. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells and blood lipids. Glucose is transported from the intestines or liver to the body cells via the bloodstream.

Glucose levels are usually lowest in the morning, before the first meal of the day.

Low blood sugar also known as HYPOGLYCEMIA can be a dangerous condition, without having enough glucose your body can not perform it's normal function.

Your blood sugar is considered low when it drops below 70mg/dl. Immediate treatment for low blood sugar is highly important.

SYMPTOMS OF LOW BLOOD SUGAR

Symptoms of low blood sugar could occur suddenly examples are;

1. Burry vision

2. Rapid heartbeat

3. Sudden mood changes

4. Sudden nervousness

5. Difficulty sleeping

6. Unexplained fatigue

7. Pale skin

8. Headache

9. Hunger

10. Shaking

11. Sweating

12. Skin tingling

13. Trouble thinking or concentrating

14. Loss of consciousness .

Most times when your sugar level drops so quickly you may likely not have symptoms. When such occurs you could faint, experience a seizure or even go into a coma.

Research has shown that very low blood sugar is a medical emergency and it could lead to nervous system damage.

CAUSES OF LOW BLOOD SUGAR

Low blood sugar is usually a side effect of diabetes treatment, most times one doesn't need to be diabetic to experience low blood sugar. Examples of these causes are;

1. Certain medication, such as quinine

2. Drinking too much alcohol

3.Medical conditions such as hepatitis or kidney disorder

4. Tumor that produces excess insulin

5. Endocrine disorder, such as adrenal gland deficiency.

Every one with a low blood sugar condition should own a glucagon kit. For emergence situation.
