Psychological Techniques to Raise Self-Esteem
Psychologists use several techniques to help people increase their self-esteem.
Experts insist that confidence should be distinguished from excessive self-confidence. This means knowing your strengths and weaknesses and using your strongest traits in everyday life while acknowledging your faults.
Many people suffer from low self-esteem and it affects every aspect of life - from work to family. It is important to learn how to love yourself.
Everyone has flaws, but also positive qualities, which you mustn’t forget to highlight!
Look at the Good Side
Consultation Psychologists often encourage their clients to see their positive qualities. If you find it difficult to determine what you like in yourself, ask your loved ones.
For example:
- “I have a sense of humor” – therefore I will try to laugh more during the day to capitalize on this strength;
- “I’m Caring” - I'll do something special for my loved ones every day because they appreciate this trait in me;
- “I have a talent” - From today I will begin to master the knowledge and skills needed to refine my talent.
If you do this every day, soon you will learn to love yourself.
Find out in what you are good at and develop these qualities in yourself.
Listen to Criticism
Often people without confidence cannot accept an outsider’s perspective regarding themselves. However it is important to realize that criticism can be constructive and that these observations can help you to and improve yourself.
You only have to listen to his or her insight without interrupting and assess their input.
