How a Donald Trump Presidency Would Affect the World
It’s official. This week US presidential candidate Donald Trump became the Republican Party’s official candidate for the 2016 election, after securing enough delegates to edge his adversaries out of the running. To some, this is a joyful turn of events. For the majority of educated people both in the United States and around the world, the event spells out a terrifying and grim prospective future.
With Hilary Clinton the unofficial Democratic candidate, the American populace has sealed the deal on choosing between someone who has proven to be untrustworthy in the eyes of voters– and a narcissistic bigot. Trapped between a rock and a hard place, the American people must weigh their options and dive into an uncertain future.
To people like myself, the choice is clear. To allow someone like Donald Trump to enter office would be a reckless mistake that could lead America and the rest of the world down a swift road to chaos. His anarchic, archaic and quite frankly racist points of view play right into the desires of uneducated, intolerant Americans who have had unwanted change (like a black president and equal rights) “forced” upon them. Terrifyingly, enough of these people still live in America today, and the show of support for Trump is a clear indication that intolerance in America is still alive and well.
Follow me down to the United States of Trump, as he would have it:
1) Global Instability
The United States of America are still very much a key player in the world, economically, militarily and socially. Regardless of how you feel about the US, there is no denying its omnipresence. For this reason, putting a country with so much power in the hands of a reckless and belligerent figure like Donald could spell out disaster.
- Trump will embody what the rest of the world already sees as the most deplorable trait of the United States. A 2005 Pew survey of people in 16 nations found that most people described Americans as “greedy” and “violent”. As Trump himself once said:
“My whole life I’ve been greedy, greedy for money- but now I want to be greedy for the United States”.
- He proposes to confiscate Syrian and Iraqi oil areas currently controlled by ISIS. This will take time, money, and doubtlessly inspire more hatred towards the US for intervening where they simply don’t belong- all for the sake of oil.
- We can expect a 45% tariff on Chinese products. Let’s see what that does for the global economy and our wallets.
- Trump has called NATO “obsolete”, and has threatened to terminate the alliance unless the US’s European allies pay the US for troops stationed on the continent.
- He encourages countries like Japan and South Korea to acquire their own nuclear weapons so that the United States doesn’t need to help protect them (and the rest of the world) from North Korea.
- He proposes that all countries who benefit from US military power should pay for it. Countries all over the world have based their security policies around the allegiance with the US. If America refuses to back up their allies in the event of an attack, the whole web of security interdependency will crumble.
- His anti-Islam rhetoric will compound the toxic relations between the Arab and Western worlds.
“In a region already predisposed to anti-Americanism, Trump’s Islamophobic and racially charged message is reinforcing long-held suspicious that America is a racist, imperialist nation that wants to exploit and subjugate the Arab world.” – Washington bureau chief for the Arabic Daily
2) Regressive Attitudes Towards Women
In the 2012 US presidential election, 53% of voters were women and 55% of votes for Barack Obama came from women. Clearly females are a good constituency to tip the scales in your favor.
From Day 1, Donald Trump has proudly propagated misogynistic values, insulting, belittling and sexualizing women in every way imaginable even as his trio of Barbie-like supporters stands smiling behind him. We have no reason to expect this to change during a Trump administration.
- He proposes to punish women who undertake abortions- an idea that horrifies people on both sides of the abortion debate.
- He has cheerfully insulted the likes of Heidi Klum, Carly Fiorina, and Hillary Clinton based simply on their appearance. As a leader, we can continue to look forward to him assessing women based on their looks rather than their character.
- We can expect immature antics and name-calling. After news anchor Megyn Kelly called him out for his sexist remarks reminding him: “You have called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs’, ‘dogs’, ‘slobs’ and ‘disgusting animals’”, Donald responded by later calling her a bimbo.
- As a man who swore during an interview that he would never marry a woman who expected him to change a diaper, you can see where his sentiments lie. He was even quoted as saying about his wife Melania “I won’t do anything to take care of them. I’ll supply funds and she’ll take care of the kids. It’s not like I’m gonna be walking the kids down Central Park.”
Very forward-thinking of you Donald!
Needless to say, in a Donald Trump presidency we can look forward to women being judged more than ever based on their faces and bodies rather than talent and education.
As he once said, “you know, it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass”!

3) Restricted Rights for Minorities
On the first day of his campaign, Donald made it very clear that Mexicans would get the big NO if he were to become president. After claiming that most Mexicans were thieves and rapists, he continued on to propose the construction of a giant wall between the United States and Mexico. That’s only the beginning.
- The US will “make” Mexico pay for the proposed wall.
- Reduction of refugee programs. By making it harder for refugees to seek asylum, Donald proposes to save money for the country.
- For international job seekers, regardless of their qualifications, the process of getting a job will become more difficult. Before any new green cards are issued to foreign workers abroad there will be a pause where employers will have to hire from the domestic pool before considering international applicants.
4) Anti-Muslim Policies
Donald Trump has tapped into a vein of fear amongst Americans, and has intensified it. By developing an anti-Muslim rhetoric, Trump taps into the underlying thread of xenophobia still present in America.
There are no witnesses to support the above-claim.
- He proposes a complete ban on Muslims. Need I say anything more?
- He promises that mosques will face government surveillance.
- Hate crimes against Muslims are already on the rise as a result of Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric thus far, so we can certainly expect more under his administration. https://theintercept.com/2016/05/05/hate-crimes-rise-along-with-donald-trumps-anti-muslim-rhetoric/
5) Miscellaneous Changes
- Massive budget cuts, particularly from areas like the Department of Education. Meanwhile he proposes a military campaign to take oil fields in the Middle East, which would doubtlessly cost billions of dollars.
- Sarah Palin as a member of the Presidential Cabinet.
- Cutting of the Environmental Protection Agency because “what they do is a disgrace”.
- No more welfare benefits for the “undeserving poor”.

- Luckily for us however, we won’t need to worry about Global Warming because according to Donald it was “created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive”!
For these reasons and more, I say #NeverTrump.
