Ballet - Konstantin Kostjukov

I can’t think of a ballet without thinking of Konstantin Kostjukov’s Greek Zorbas performance and the consequential applause from the public all over the world. His energy leaves you breathless, and your only wish is that performance would play on forever.

Konstantin Kostjukov was born 1967 in Kiev. His father was a ballet dancer too, at the National Theatre in Kiev.

When Konstantin was seven years old his father took him to the ballet studio. While he was in music school, he played piano, but for ballet he was especially talented. Due to his father’s magical stories and great experiences dancing, he chose ballet to be his profession. After eight years of training he became a soloist and few years later he was a renowned ballet champion. He had an offer to start a career in Canada, but he chose Yugoslavia. Even when the country began to fall apart he remained. Throughout his life he was romantically involved with other Ballerinas. He was married twice, and for the last seventeen years he has been in a relationship with Duska Dragicevic .With her he danced some of his best rolls, and they became a beloved couple on the dance scene.

In his eternal searching for new challenges, Konstantin Kostjukov unconsciously moved  boundaries in ballet. After his flawless execution, the performance of Greek Zorbas will never be the same in my eyes.
